菊与刀英语读后感篇2

notice: this was the companion piece of the adventures of tom sawyer, and also the continuation.

although it could be said that this book was the continuation, still, it started a whole new story of huck.

basic information:

huck: a real friend of tom sawyer

jim: a nigger (forgive me, though the word was offensive, it was the word which went through the whole book) who felt discontent of the widow, and ran away to seek freedom.

the king: a swindler who claimed to be a king, and went along with huck and jim to cheat money.

the duke: also a cheater, who went alongside with the king.

mr. and mrs. phelps: tom sawyer’s relatives.

while huck was being raised by the widow, miss watson, he found his father sitting in his room, and he was being brought away. there, the true adventures began…

while huck’s father left huck for three days, he ran away, and got to the island of jacksonville, which he was familiar to. however, the second night, he met jim! while he found out, jim was sound asleep. jim was being shocked to death when he found out that huck was there too (you know, jim was also a run-away, so he was also scared that someone would find him). then they were together, and got elsewhere.

they slept at day, and took actions at night. one day, they evidently met the king and the duke. actually, i have been foolish enough to believe that they were actually a king and a duke! to tell the truth, they were just a couple of cheaters. but then, they went along with huck and jim, and while they claimed that they were the royals, they were being treated in a good way (which i hated).

on the way, the king and the duke cheated a pretty lot of money. i could say that they nearly gained a thousand dollars. then they pretended to be the brothers in a family who had a large amount of money. however, they were being discovered, and they ran away as soon as they could.

while the days went by, huck was beginning to show detesting in the duke and the king, and he ran away from them when he sought a chance. however, he found out that jim was gone! soon, the two caught up, and the duke told him where to go. and this was the last time ever that huck should see these two fellows.

what was the most amusing thing was that, in the end, he met tom again in tom’s uncle’s house! mr. and mrs. phelps were waiting for tom for a very long time, and when they found a boy standing over their (huck, of course), they were so overexcited that they thought huck was tom! huck found himself in a real depressed situation: if tom came, how was he ever going to explain it all? he decided to go looking for tom.

when tom found out that huck was in front of him, he was surprised that huck was still alive (because when huck was lost, all of the people in town thought that huck was already killed)! tom was naturally a smart boy, and he came up with a way. he made himself sid, the brother of tom, and was also greeted by the phelps.

of course, jim was locked up, and tom promised huck to save him. they let jim do a lot of things, such as taking a rattlesnake as a pet, and also watering a tiny plant with his tears (trust me, i never had no idea what it was about). finally when, they made all of the efforts to save jim, they found that in miss watson (she was jim’s hostess)’s will, she already set free to jim!

菊与刀英语读后感篇3

after reading the book david copperfield, i could not calm my mind for a long time. the character of david is so distinctive and makes people interested in him.

his father died before he was born, his mother remarried when he was eight, his stepfather, mr. modestone, was harsh and brutal, and his sister, miss modestone, was just as hard-hearted and unsympathetic, and david was subjected to many unkind people during his growing up process - a cruel schoolmaster, a cunning friend, and the evil-minded yulia shipp. however, there is no shortage of good people in david's life, including the lovely nanny piggotti, the quiet and inarticulate mr. barcus, the seemingly serious but kind-hearted aunt, the unhappy mr. and mrs. micawber, who are sometimes cheerful and sometimes depressed, but always looking forward to the "turn of events", and the quiet and gentle there is the quiet and gentle agnes, a wise and caring friend; and dora, a most lovely dora.

the book is mainly about david's life and his wonderful emotional history, and finally, he lived with his beloved one.

this story tells me that in this world, outsiders are generally not trustworthy, especially those who look very beautiful on the surface, but very evil inside. so we should not trust others easily when we interact with friends, maybe unknowingly one of your friends is carrying out his terrible plan. as the saying goes, you don't know who you are, you don't know who you are!

菊与刀英语读后感篇4

in the summer vacation, i read a book which is called “the christmas carol”. it is written by charles dickens, a famous english writer.

the story is about ebenezer scrooge, a miser. scrooge always said about christmas, “bah, humbug”. he also didn’t like spending money and giving money away even more. marley used to be the partners with scrooge. unfortunately, he died 7 years ago. one day, maley’s ghost came to his home and told scrooge three christmas ghost would come to his home. firstly, ghost of christmas past came. he showed scrooge how he became a miser from a happy boy. then, ghost of christmas present came. he showed his employee and his nephew’s happy lives. finally, ghost of christmas future came. he took scrooge to his grave in his future and showed him his lonely death is the result of his mean and miserly life. in the next morning, scrooge understood. he changed his living way and became generous. he donated money to the charity organization.

i think it is a good story. it tells us to be generous and help other people more. to be miserly and mean only do harm to other people and ourselves. helping others is a very good virtue. it makes you feel good, make others feel warm and make others remember you. as so many advantages, why you don’t do this?

菊与刀英语读后感篇5

i once read a book named “charlottes web ".it talks about a very moving story which is one of the most remarkablely beautiful memory in my childhood.

this is the gist of the story.pig wilbur and the spider charlotte live in so perfect accord with each other that they built sincere friendship. however, a bad news came like a bolt from the blue: wilbur will be killed on the christmas day! "you never die, ill save you!"by charlotte when wilbur was wailing "i dont want to die!" to fulfill her promise, charlotte devoted all her lifetime and asked no rewards, until the moment she died.

after i had read the book,i was in contemplative mood. only leaving the selfless love and pure kindness, charlottes own time was at an end. when this sort of emotion has already been lacked seriously in contemporary society, this story undoubtedly moves the readers.

according to my point,we need such kind of friendship in our life,so we must learn from charlotte. as they old saying goes”a friend in need is a friend in deed”。we should help our friends as much as we could when they needed. let us go into action, let the world become especially fine.

菊与刀英语读后感篇6

oliver twist is a realistic novel written by charles dickens. the novel is set in foggy london in the 19th century and tells the story of olivers life experience and growth. at the same time, as an example of social novels, it reveals other real social problems in the 19th century, such as child labor, juvenile delinquency and so on. there is a plot in the article that makes people feel deeply. oliver is taken to the gathering place of thieves. the men who dominate the group praise the death penalty in front of expensive watches and jewelry. it seems hard to understand why the lawbreakers are not afraid of death penalty. this is related to the defects of the law at that time. confession can not change the fate of being hanged, so the criminals who go to the execution ground will not choose to let the truth as a result, these young people are free from slavery. oliver, the protagonist in the novel, was originally a simple teenager, because he had to mix with a group of juvenile delinquents for survival. regardless of the later turning point of the novel, if oliver had been living with this group of people and learning their "technology", his life would surely go dark. although these are related to the complex background of london in the 19th century, we should still be vigilant that similar phenomena still exist in our society. caring for the physical and mental health of teenagers requires the joint efforts of all our citizens. like the old gentleman in the novel, a little help and a simple helping hand may change a persons future.
